This project was started because the New Zealand government failed to respond to the Royal Commission recommendation that neuroaffirming safeguarding be implemented into the New Zealand system.
NeuroReverse reverses the societial narrative and challenges the ways autistic and AuDHD women are misunderstood, dismissed, excluded and harmed in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
We challenge ableism - including the systems, assumptions and practices that fail to recognise our experiences, needs and rights.
We have a few peer-led solutions happening for autistic and AuDHD women because we don't need a research to establish that autisic and AuDHD women have a right to be safe. Safety is a basic Human Right.
We hate to point it out but if current solutions worked our abuse rates wouldn't be so high.
We're claiming our place in society instead of waiting on one being designated.

The Autistic and AuDHD Women's Safety Club is a peer-led, neuro-affirming safeguarding initiative aligned with the Aotearoa New Zealand Autism Guideline and disability-rights principles. It uses lived experience, peer connection, accessible education and community participation to strengthen safety, autonomy and wellbeing for Autistic and AuDHD women.
It is for Autistic/AuDHD woman 18+ with an offical diagnoses or self diagnosis and meets fortnightly on Zoom on Sunday afternoon.
"It is one of the beautiful compensations of life that no one can sincerely try to help another without helping one self."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Please send us an email if you can't make the advertised meeting as with enough interest an additional meeting can be created with an alternative/date and time.

At our first Safety Club meeting we discussed the confusion and relief of being newly diagnosed and are starting a Zoom Group for woman to share experiences and learn about the system violence they are still facing.
Identify verification is required like regularly Safety Club and a code of conduct will be provided.
Schedule will be announced after we receive 3 registrations of interests.

A private Facebook group is also available between meetings for woman who attend The Safety Club.
It differs to generic neurodiverse facebook groups because:

Safety Club for Teen Gals.
A moderated chat room has been established on DeadSimpleChat and will be opened 2 days after school once we recieve 5 registrations of interest.
Mum and teen needs to follow our same Safety Club verification process to keep out the unwanted.
The Safety focus of this chat is to encouraging friendships and socialising with like minded peers who share the same social context.
A similar model is operated in the UK.

Everyone joining our services is identity-verified before being admitted. This is one of the safetyguards we use to reduce fake identities and people entering for purposes unrelated.
You can verify on a one off zoom meeting and also by sending us your screen name and a photo of NZ government ID which we will delete as soon as we view it. It will not be kept on file.

The Royal Commission into Abuse in Care highlighted the system violence shown towards Autistic and AuDHD women.
This is alive and being shown to woman daily and a lot is coming out of Ministry of Disabled People who still value expert opinion over lived experience on their DPO coalition and in The Living Autism Guidelines.
What that means is the Ministry of Disabled People, despite the Royal Commission, believes a paid expert's limited work experience is more important and valid than the lived experience of a people with Autism.
This is demonstrated by the subject of personal safety not appearing anywhere in the Living Autism Guidelines.

We're currently looking for 1 Autistic/AuDHD women to join a Club Development Committee as a Founding Member as our Peer Zoom Safety Club and growing more are now a registered charity.
Previous committees or governance experience would be useful but isn’t essential. We're particularly interested in woman who care about personal safety, human rights and improving the systems autistic and AuDHD women encounter.
Contact us to find out more.

We are currently developing a safe and transparent process for collecting lived-experience stories.
Before we collect your story, we'll explain the purposes it's used for, how your privacy will be protected and the choices you have about what happens to it.
Nothing will be published without your consent and examples of peer stories can be found on our YouTube Channel or on this website at Safety Awareness Videos .
Please contact us to discuss submitting your story.

When Autism NZ shares videos of identifable Autistic kids, more likely to be abused because of the Autism, in an online space known for child exploitation and abuse - and then tells you to suck it - that's where this situation ends as it indicates drastic action is needed.
Neuro-affirming clinician practitioners don't do this. They don't reveal the identity of children who want to please adults by nature. At best, Autism NZ are confused at who sets the bar since no safety bar has ever been set.
Probably because safety is a personal issue and not one a neurotypical led organisations would think of especially if they're part of the problem, demonstrating unsafe behaviour.
This is especially true when you have confirmed that no where in the system are there protection and sustainabilty resources for families experiencing family disability making them more likely to be unknowingly targeted too, due to unmeet needs.
If you're a neuro affirming female clinician whose sick of it too send us an email to join the party and help us set the bar!!

Incase you missed it because it was sure misreported. Drowning is considered a leading cause of death in Autistic children . It would be a fair statement to say they love water play.
This really should have come out of the Royal Commission but when you're part of a group of Autistic and AuDHD woman who are on a mission and not a budget, of course we'll step up.
The Neuro-Affirming Children Safe Guarding Guidelines project fits quite strongly within the Aotearoa New Zealand autism/disability framework, as it covers safeguarding, participation, human rights and harm prevention.

Currently in New Zealand Autism and Safeguarding are largely treated as separate systems.
Oranga Tamariki explicitly states that disabled children are more likely to experience abuse or neglect and identifies barriers to communicating that harm is occurring as one of the relevant risk factors. It also specifically identifies neurodiverse rangatahi, including autistic young people, as overrepresented in care and youth justice systems.

In development is free peer designed Social Sex Education which is in addition to the current curriculum and focuses on overcoming the problems caused by interoception, alexithymia and social blindness.
It teaches teens and kids Body Zones and what it means if someone touches their Zones in social contexts.
Often our symptoms mean we fail to recognise social nuances like the build up to touching which is a social thing.
Green Zone = Friendly Intent.
Blue Zone = Affectionate Intent.
Yellow Zone = Questionable Intent.
Red Zone = Sexual Intent.
It also works for neurodiverse parents who feel uncomfortable explaining neuro typical sex concepts to their neurodiverse children when they haven't experienced them.
More coming soon

This project has a strong alignment with the Aotearoa New Zealand Autism Guideline, particularly because it focuses on the social context of autistic and AuDHD women rather than treating autism only as a clinical condition.

Do it and prove, why neurodiverse people need neuroaffirming safeguarding.
Liz Wilkinson developed the concept of neuroaffirming safeguarding while doing personal healing work with an ACC sensitive claims neuro affirming counsellor who is also a neuro affirming Social Worker.
New Zealand has disability safeguarding frameworks and increasingly neuro-affirming autism practice. The missing piece is bringing them together into a neuro-affirming safeguarding framework.

While parental neurodiversity is widely recognised in Australia it is not widely recognised in the New Zealand public system and Oranga Tamariki does not recognise or provide protective resources to neurodiverse families.
If you and/or your partner come under investigation by Oranga Tamariki, we encourage you to immediately contact a Disability Lawyer.
Some private organisations provide support groups for neurodiverse families and they are displayed on our Facebook page.
If you're 3 generations deep in missed or misdiagnosis we openly acknowledge and recognise the joint social misunderstandings neurodiverse families can develop and use to gang up on you.
If you are in this situation we suggest you don't poke the bear and quietly form new social relationships with people who understand like woman in Safety Club, as social strategies are available that you can use to minimise the impact of the abuse.
Also see our page Crisis Support.

This letter confirms Oranga Tamariki are
We're acknowledging these sad state of affairs so parents can make a complaint to the Human Rights Commission, if their child hits the Youth Justice stage and they can't understand why their child's mind is wrecked.
Wrong system tool.
Wrong application with a smile.
The Living Autism Guidelines wrongly mislabeled this common physical problem, a sensory problem so this further information is being made available for anyone including parents looking for another solution.
